We value our discretionary time very highly. In fact, if it isn’t something that adds to our overall enjoyment of life, health, or Knuckles’ relationship with us, it is likely outsourced and not handled by me or Traveling Poppa. Like many other working families, we’re busy during the day adding value to the institution in which we work or the clients which we serve. After work, we usually run 3 – 4 times a week outside along the Chicago lakefront (Knuckles rides his bike), make dinner, give Knuckles a bath, play together, read books, and then tuck Knuckles in to bed. At 8:30 pm Traveling Poppa and I are then able to do anything else that needs to be done for the day or we get to relax, hang out with each other, or indulge in the two shows we do watch on TV, 60 Minutes and Breaking Bad.
That’s why when it comes to actually booking our award redemptions I outsource this activity to an award booking service. If it will take me more than 3 hours to complete the booking, I would rather pay the fee for the service knowing my time is better spent elsewhere. Everyone values their time differently, so do your own analysis and see what makes most sense for you, your family, and your budget.
